Inside Arbelle: Building the future of beauty, one career at a time

by Helena Omejec

There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing your code do cool things, like rendering realistic makeup with augmented reality, or helping someone find their perfect shade of foundation with our shade finder.

But you know what’s even better?

Seeing that same code make a difference in the real world, like reducing cosmetic waste and helping someone feel truly seen

Building beauty AI that truly makes a difference

What is it that we actually do? In short, we develop beauty AI solutions for cosmetic brands. Our solutions help them provide customers with inclusive and personalized makeup experiences that allow buyers to find the perfect products more easily.

For cosmetic brands, our solutions can increase sales, lower return rates, and give better insights into the behaviors and preferences of their customers. For their customers, it means personalized recommendations, more informed buying decisions, and an improved customer experience.

How do we achieve that?

Our Shade Finder is the industry’s most inclusive solution for finding the right skin tone match – it is the only solution of its kind using the monk skin tone scale, which truly reflects the diversity of human skin.

Our Virtual Makeup Try-On transforms any device with a camera into a virtual mirror for our clients’ products

We also created ArbelleGPT – a virtual beauty assistant that holds natural conversations with beauty shoppers and pulls real-time data from the brand’s product feed to help them make smarter purchases, with the option to instantly try the product on via the virtual try-on.

Why what we do matters

As a kid, I was scared the sun was going to explode. Growing up, I realized the real worry was the waste we leave behind.

Beauty brands produce over 120 billion units of packaging annually, or 15 pieces of cosmetic waste for every person on Earth. Beauty AR tech cuts waste by replacing testers, reducing returns, and enabling smarter shopping.

Besides the environmental momentum, our technology has inclusivity embedded in its core. As mentioned, Shade Finder is the only solution of its kind using the monk skin tone scale.

Many makeup wearers struggled, at some point in their life, with finding the best foundation shade, especially people with darker complexions, seeing that the beauty industry predominantly catered to lighter skin tones for years. But even the average user can have a hard time finding their ideal shade. We bridge that gap.

Another aspect that is often overlooked in the beauty industry is accessibility – for some, aisles too narrow for wheelchairs and products locked behind packaging impossible to open with limited dexterity, are just hypotheticals they never have to worry about.

But for 15% of the population that lives with disabilities, it is a reality. Technology can bridge that gap, both for inclusivity and for accessibility – no store crowds, no struggling with tiny testers if your hands don’t cooperate.

And last, but not least, in the world of beauty where competition is ruthless and customer habits depend on viral TikToks, our technology can help cosmetic brands stand out and offer buyers unique experiences that can drive sales.

If you’re considering your next career move, here’s what makes Arbelle a place where you can grow, thrive, and make a real impact.

Working at Arbelle

Behind every line of code and every product launch is a team of curious, creative, and passionate people who believe in what we’re building and in each other.

Marcus, our Head of Arbelle, is proud of the team he collaborates with:

We help world-renowned brands solve their day-to-day problems. But more importantly, we put people first, build trust, encourage ownership, and support professional and personal growth.”

People-first culture

It takes a lot of dedication to build such teams. We ensure the flow of information through daily and weekly meetings and occasional days at the office. We also organize events that don’t revolve around work to bring out the true team spirit.

Once a year, we have a company-wide team building, and as a part of it, we have our own sports competition. You can just cheer if you’re not the sporty type, or you can let your competitiveness shine, whichever you prefer. Individual teams also have a budget for smaller team buildings; we host a summer barbecue, bake-off events, and many others.

There’s also plenty of extracurricular groups – hikers, bikers, runners, art connoisseurs… You can be part of all (or none). Or suggest a new activity – we’re still missing a book club!

A culture of learning and growth

Stagnation? Not part of the plan! We want everyone to grow, not just in skills but in confidence, ownership, and opportunities.

We’ve worked hard to define ladders (career progression tracks, such as engineering and sales ladders) and levels, which are related to seniority, contributions, and expectations within the ladder. Both of these provide a framework for advancement.

Another process we’ve implemented is 360-degree feedback to get insights on key competencies, which we use to create a yearly education plan for the company, divisions, and individual personal development plans.

1-on-1s are also an important mechanism that enables all team members to discuss their opinions and ideas with their team leaders and managers. Their purpose is to support the free flow of information and make sure everyone is seen and heard.

Work-life balance

One thing that sets our team apart? The amount of autonomy and trust you get.

We give you the tools, context, and support – and then let you own your work. That also translates into as much flexibility as we can offer. You can choose between different modes of work – coming to our modern, well-equipped office; working remotely; or enjoying the best of both worlds.

Mia, our Data Specialist, chose the latter:

Most of the time I’m working from home, since I live almost three hours away from our office. Without this flexibility, I wouldn’t be able to work for Arbelle. But when there are big events, work that requires my presence, or sometimes when I just miss my colleagues, I swing by the office and enjoy the change of pace.

The working hours are also flexible – start anytime between 7 AM (for early birds) and 10 AM (night owls). Whichever mode of work you choose, you’ll also receive an additional budget for IT equipment, so you can set up your workspace the way you like it, whether it’s a standing desk or accessories that make you work smoothly.

Benefits

We do our best to create attractive benefit packages. On the financial side, you’ll receive a meal allowance, the aforementioned IT equipment budget, and yearly bonuses (Christmas bonus, Easter bonus, vacation bonus, and annual awards).

Taking care of yourself matters, which is why every year you’ll get company-sponsored health checkups in a private clinic. You can also get a subsidized Multisport card. If that isn’t enough movement for your taste, I’ve already mentioned the plethora of sports groups – hikers, bikers, footballers, basketballers, and many more.

Some other benefits, that show our dedication to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, are family-friendly benefits, such as gifts for children for St. Nicholas, gifts for newborns, subsidized kindergarten costs, and a one-month transition period with 4-hour work days after maternity or paternity leave (at full salary).

Innovation, inclusion, impact

At Arbelle, we believe in innovation, inclusion, and impact – from the tech we build to the culture we share every day.

We hope all of this gives you plenty of reasons to stick around. Explore our Careers page to see open positions and join us on our mission to reshape the future of beauty with AI.
